When A Stranger Calls - 2006

When A Stranger Calls is a complete package of thrill and suspense. Directed by Simon West, this movie is able to keep the excitement alive till the end of the movie. It is a remake of a 1979 Fred Walton thriller with the same title.

Jill Johnson (Camella Belle), a normal teenager decides to babysit for Mandrakis, a rich family of 2 kids to meet her expenses. As soon as the Mandrakis left their house with the 2 children sleeping inside the upstairs bedroom, Jill began to receive weird phone calls. First she thought the pranks were played by her boyfriend, but it was not. The stranger calls her and asks her to check the children. Jill goes to the upstairs bedroom and finds the children sleeping comfortably. The stranger (Tommy Flanagan) calls again and tells Jill that she has been watched. Jill gets freaked out and calls 911. The police traced the call; the call has been made from inside the Mandrakis' House. The night of a simple babysitting turned into a night of survival.

Inspite of having a very predictable storyline, When A Stranger Calls still makes it as a good thriller. It keeps you anticipating about the stranger till the end. The background score adds more thrill to this movie. Belle did a perfect job in playing the teenager Jill. There is absolutely no gore or unnecessary violence; it is a perfect thriller made in the old school style.
